What Do I Do If…

22 Oct

Rah Rah Cheerleaders! I hope you’re all feeling perky today!

There have been some questions about what to do if you encounter a protected Twitter or Facebook account, any account on a site where you do not have an account and therefore can’t cheer for someone. Here’s what you do.

In the first case, where few or no cheerleaders will be able to cheer for the person in question, please send a DM (@TriniCapini) or email (trishsreadingnook at gmail dot com) to Trish and she’ll make a note of this on the reading list.

In the second case, where only you can’t cheer for the person, please feel free to skip them as you make your rounds.

Have an awesome day of reading and cheering!

Team Hashtags, Anyone?

20 Oct

Care had a fun idea: squads could use hashtags to find one another on Twitter! So! To get some team pride going, use these in your tweets:

Why these hashtags in particular? A couple of reasons:

  1. They had to be short! Especially if you’re including the #readathon hashtag too. So, we nixed full team names.
  2. #team___ is pretty common, but #cheer___ is not. Searches for these hashtags on Twitter turned up nothing, so they’re all ours!
  3. If you forget your team’s hashtag and don’t want to come back here, the formula is easy: # + cheer + the first word in your team’s name. Simple!

Have fun with these, guys! Let’s make this an awesome event!!

Welcome, October ’11 Cheerleaders!

25 Sep

Hi cheerleaders!

Thanks for signing up to cheer with us. (Haven’t signed up? You can do that on the main Read-A-Thon site.) We’re glad you’re here! Take a look around the site — there’s lots of good info. As we get closer to the Read-A-Thon, you’ll receive an email assigning you to a particular cheering squad, but don’t worry about that for now.

If you’d like a button for your blog, feel free to grab one from the sidebar. And if you have any questions, send one of us an email using the addresses below.

The Greatest Cheerleaders

10 Apr

Thanks again to everyone who is cheerleading during the readathon! To honor my own team (Team Wordsworth…yay!!!!) I have borrowed one of Wordsworth’s poems (“The Solitary Reader”) and changed a few words. I like to think Wordsworth would approve. Please don’t disillusion me.

The Greatest Cheerleaders

Behold, the reader in the chair,
Yon bookish readathoner!
Reading and blogging all day long;
The eyes, they’re a goner.
The reader needs a cheer from you,
To keep them from feeling askew;
Go comment! To help the reader
How crucial is the cheerleader.

No cheerleader ever did cheer
Such awesome comments and chants
As Team Wordsworth in the blogosphere
We’ll kick you in the pants.
Comments so thrilling ne’er were heard
Who cares if we sound absurd,
Cheering can be the greatest fun
And Team Wordworth can’t be outdone.

And okay, so there are two more stanzas that I didn’t make it to, but I’m sure you all get the point.

Team Wordsworth rocks!😀 Whatcha got to say about that, Byron, Shelley and Keats?

Sweet Readathon

9 Apr

When I woke up this morning I discovered a message from Rebecca at The Book Lady’s Blog asking if I had ever parodied Sweet Caroline. She was thinking Sweet Readathon should be a song. And I agree, even though I’d already posted this read-a-thon’s song on my own blog.

So I donned the pom-poms and got to work…

Sweet Readathon (to the tune of Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline)

Where it began, it all began with Dewey
And wow, it keeps on going strong
It happens in the fall
And again in the spring
It’s when readers have a ball

Books, reading books, blogging books
Cheering here, cheering there
Oh, sweet Readathon
Reading should always be so good
Dontcha just love all the readers in our ‘hood?

And now we, we read intot the night, whooo
And it don’t seem so lonely
We fill it up with all our books, oh
And when we read
Reading brings us together
How can I not read with all of you?

Oh, books, reading one, reading two
Cheering you and tweeting you
Oh, sweet Readathon
Reading should always be so good
Dontcha just love all the readers in our ‘hood?

Ohhh, sweet Readathon, reading should always be so good

See you all tomorrow at the read-a-thon!

Shake those pom-poms!
