About the HQ

Welcome to cheerleading headquarters for Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-Thon! This blog will serve as a home base for the cheerleaders who are offering support to all of the readers participating in the read-a-thon.

What is Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-thon? For 24 hours, we read books, post to our blogs about our reading, and visit other readers’ blogs. We also participate in mini-challenges throughout the day. It happens twice a year, in April and in October. It was created by the beloved Dewey. The first one was held in October 2007. Dewey died in late 2008. We’re still saddened by her absence, but the show must go on. The read-a-thon was renamed to honor its founder in 2009. Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-thon is hosted by Shesten and Trish.

What is cheerleading for the read-a-thon? Cheerleaders offer support to all of the readers participating in Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-thon by leaving comments on reader’s blogs and/or Twitter. It’s lots of fun (and kind of addicting).

Here at Cheerleading Headquarters you will find:

  • About the HQ – which you are currently reading.
  • Cheerleading Squads – a list of all of our cheerleading squads and their assignments
  • Readers – a list of those who are participating in the readathon…we will also use this page to keep track of those who are actively reading, and those who have stopped participating.
  • Info, Tips & Tricks – or, how this cheerleading gig works. Includes suggestions from previous cheerleaders, helpful links, and answers to common questions.

The October 22, 2011 Read-a-Thon cheerleading effort is being organized by Trish and Erin. Please email us at trishsreadingnook {at} gmail {dot} com or erinreadsblog {at} gmail {dot} com if you have any questions!
